The third edition of the World Youth Championship in Savate Assaut fulfilled its promise: a hundred athletes, boys and girls, representing 14 countries and 3 continents. The championship is open to athletes aged from 15 years to 17 years. The city of Plovdiv, European Capital of Culture 2019, hosted the championships. Plovdiv is a tourist town with many Roman ruins.

The Bulgarian Federation made the delegations great welcome, with accommodation in a very nice hotel, close to the sports hall. The weigh-in of the delegations took place at the hotel on the Thursday evening, with the championship beginning on Friday morning.

One hundred athletes competed for GOLD medals and the coveted title of world champion. The technical level was generally very high and decisions often went to a majority of judges. The "pool" system set up by FISav allows athletes to move forward even if they are unfortunate enough to meet the eventual champion in the first round (there is no direct elimination until the quarter and semi-finals).

The French squad marked its supremacy by winning many titles. Their specific technical skills but also the quality of supervision around a cohesive and united team, allows athletes to find the resources to make "the difference" in uncertain times and win the assauts.

Bulgarian National Television made two broadcasts of the competition - one of an hour and the other about twenty minutes. These images should help to develop our sport in Bulgaria.

The championship ended on Saturday night with a party organized by FISav to mark the 30th anniversary of FISav.

Thank you to the athletes, their trainers and the officials for their participation in this championship. Happy Birthday FISav !
